imPACT in Action: Austin Sersig – Leading with Safety, Every Step of the Way

When it comes to setting the standard for safety, Austin Sersig doesn’t just talk the talk—he walks it every single day. As our Assistant Construction Manager, Austin has been a consistent force in building a strong safety culture at StormWater Pros since he joined the team in 2021. This quarter, we’re proud to recognize him as the recipient of our very first imPACT Award for Safety.

Presented by General Manager Cindy Johnson and Director of Construction Justin Ramirez, the award honors Austin’s commitment to keeping our crews safe, informed, and accountable.

“He embodies the culture we want to create.”

Austin’s approach to safety is proactive, hands-on, and deeply rooted in care for his team. He leads weekly safety meetings for multiple departments, actively reviews job sites, and holds team members—and third-party crews—to the highest standards. Whether he's identifying potential risks in real-time or coaching crews through best practices, Austin’s presence is a daily reminder that safety is more than a checklist—it's a mindset.

One standout moment came when Austin addressed a safety issue with a third-party vendor onsite. He noticed a worker standing within six feet of an open hole without a proper harness, in clear violation of our safety standards. Without hesitation, Austin stepped in to correct the situation, communicated expectations to the vendor, and reinforced that all individuals on-site—regardless of company—are expected to meet StormWater Pros’ safety protocols.
“It’s easy to let things go,” said one leader. “But Austin doesn’t. He holds everyone to our standards.”

More than policies—he builds culture

Austin doesn’t just enforce rules—he cultivates a culture. He takes initiative to bring in new resources, like sourcing effective safety training videos for onboarding and refreshers. He’s also leading the charge on creating a custom safety training video tailored specifically to StormWater Pros.

As one team member put it:
“He continues to teach our crews the importance of safety—whether it’s onsite training or toolbox talks, he shows it in both his actions and his appearance.”

Austin is a regular presence at pre-construction meetings, ensuring that safety expectations are clear not just for our teams, but for anyone we partner with. He’s even been known to set the standard when others don’t have one.

“What’s our goal?”

Austin begins each safety meeting with the same question:
“What’s our goal?”
And the answer comes from the crew: “To get home.”

That’s what drives him every day. He doesn’t show up to “bust chops”—he shows up to make sure every team member goes home safely at the end of the day.

A True Leader in the Field

Austin’s leadership is shaping the safety culture at StormWater Pros, and his impact is seen not only in protocols, but in people. Whether it’s a new hire or a seasoned crew member, Austin ensures everyone knows what’s expected—and why it matters.

He’s creating the culture he wants to be part of, and in doing so, he’s helping define what safety leadership truly looks like.

Congratulations, Austin! Your dedication, vigilance, and heart for your team make you an invaluable part of StormWater Pros—and a true Safety leader.
