Clearing the Way for Progress: A Creative Solution in Downtown Tempe

When innovation meets a challenge, incredible things happen.

This was the case with a unique project we recently tackled in Downtown Tempe. Before the demolition of a multi-story building could proceed, there was one major hurdle: removing a massive amount of soil from the rooftop. The soil, once used for rooftop potted plants, needed to be cleared quickly and safely.

The usual methods weren’t viable. Transporting the soil through the building was impractical, and the tight urban environment made it impossible to bring in large equipment like a crane. Faced with these limitations, planners were searching for a creative solution. That’s when our HVAC Director stepped in with an innovative idea: utilizing our Hydrovactor trucks.

Hydrovactor trucks, essentially high-powered industrial vacuums, turned out to be the perfect answer. We connected hoses from the trucks stationed on the street to the rooftop six stories above. The Hydrovactor trucks effectively removed the soil while minimizing disruption to the surrounding area. This method proved to be not only efficient but also cost-effective, as it avoided unnecessary delays and complications.

By using this approach, we ensured the task was completed safely, cleanly, and quickly, leaving planners and our team proud of the results. Projects like this highlight our commitment to finding innovative solutions that meet the unique challenges of urban environments.
